what can you do with 3D printers?

3D printers are a new generation of print machinery that can create everyday objects. They are remarkably versatile because they can produce a variety of objects using additive and form-shaping print methods. Quite the opposite from subtractive printing like; engraving or etching which is used to carve away material or hollow out an area to form an object. Although subtractive printing can certainly be used to create 3D objects and assembled prints as well. 3D printers use extrusion and curing methods to print thin layers that create a solid object, typically using plastic, resin or petroleum based materials.

Each product design has a different function so selecting the correct material to print your product can greatly improve the products function. PLA filaments and SLA resins come in a variety of colors. Certain filaments and resins are used for medical grade purposes while others are used for heat resistant purposes. Some filaments have magnetic qualities while others have specific visual qualities. Choosing the best material for your 3D Print is an important step in the design process.
